My Story

Fifteen years ago, I started my career as an Elementary School Teacher in Vancouver, British Columbia. From the very beginning, I found that I was drawn to students who needed further connection and understanding. Working one-on-one with these students and their families made me feel more passionate about my day-to-day work. That was when I knew that counselling was the right path for me. I decided to complete my Masters in School Counselling and since then, I have been able to spend my days at work doing what I absolutely love. I get to provide my undivided attention to my students and their families, while helping them with the challenges they face. I have extensive experience working with a variety of people struggling with difficult family dynamics, debilitating anxiety, feelings of depression, separation, divorce, trauma, major life transitions and abuse.

More recently, I have become a mother to an amazing son and daughter who are the reasons I decided to become a Sleep Consultant. I found the topic so interesting with such a strong link to mental health. As a new Mom, I tried every possible way to help my son sleep.

I fed him to sleep, rocked, bounced, drove around the neighbourhood, and made shushing sounds for what seemed like hours on end. Everytime we thought he was asleep enough to put him down, he would wake up and we would have to start all over again. This routine would continue throughout the night multiple times. This was manageable in the beginning, but as the months passed, I felt as though I was losing myself. There were days where I looked in the mirror and no longer recognized who I was. I knew that I had to do something to help my mental health. That’s when we were introduced to the Sleep Sense program. Within the first week, I was able to claim and find a part of myself that I had lost, and I was able to embrace the new person I had become. I was able to be my best self with my child. Last year when I had my daughter, I started implementing good sleep habits from day one and she has been an amazing sleeper. This motivated me to learn more and help other families who are struggling with their child’s sleep like I did. Everybody deserves a good night’s sleep as it is crucial for mental health.
